A 1965 initiate of the Beta Sigma Chapter at the University of Tampa, Darlene MacDonald Johnson was appointed by the National Executive Board to serve as Chairman of the Board of Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. Darlene has been an active SAI for more than 40 years, joining the Tampa Alumnae Chapter in 1970, serving the chapter continuously as yearbook editor and twice as president. She was Lambda Province President, Chairman of the SAI Strategic Planning Committee in 1996, and Honorary Chairman of the 2006 SAI Convention. She holds the Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Rose of Dedication, and the Diamond Sword of Honor.

Darlene earned her BLS, MBA, and a Certification in Healthcare Administration from the University of Tampa. She is also a certified clinical research professional (CCRP), a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Administrators (FAAMA), and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Oncology Management.

For 20 years, Darlene has worked at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. She was the first clinical trials coordinator in the department and helped to develop the program as it is today. She is currently the Program and Research Administrator for the Senior Adult Oncology program, Division of Geriatric Oncology.
She also has a faculty appointment at the University of South Florida College of Medicine through the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology.

She is married to SAI Friend of the Arts Frank Johnson, her college sweetheart. They have two children (Janette and Frank, Jr.) and three grandchildren (William, Anthony and Ashley).

Darlene’s passion is travel – most recently following the SAI Convention, to Lisbon, Portugal. She has been all over the world and to most major cities in the United States. She also loves to read, play the piano, sing, sew, knit, scrapbook, do crafts and of course play with her grandchildren.
