Sue Bermann, National Vice-President of Membership, earned her Bachelor of Music degree in music history from the University of Miami. She joined SAI in 1975 as an initiate of Sigma Chi. She earned her Master’s in Library Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and is the head of Cataloging for Palm Beach County Library System in West Palm Beach, Florida.

During their early married years Sue, her husband, and daughters moved often and wherever they settled SAI was there. They lived in Bloomington, Indiana (where her husband studied for his master’s degree in trombone performance), moved to Knoxville, TN (by way of Venezuela), and finally settled in West Palm Beach. Sue served these chapters as an active alum member and held all offices except treasurer. Soon after moving to West Palm Beach (in 1990) Sue became Province Office for Lambda A, a position she held for seven years. In 2006 she was asked to again serve as Lambda A PO. Sue has remained an active member of the Ft. Lauderdale Alumnae Chapter except during her tenure as province officer. Sue’s been awarded the College Honor Award, the Sword of Honor, the Ruby Sword of Honor, the Rose of Honor and the Rose of Dedication.

In addition to being a professional librarian, Sue is also a professional violinist. Most recently she’s performed as a member of the Florida Grand Opera and the Miami City Ballet orchestras. In the pops orchestra field, she has performed with countless artists from Maureen McGovern to the Smothers Brothers and even The Moody Blues.

Sue’s husband, Jim, is a professional bass trombonist and a Friend of the Arts. They have two daughters and one son-in-law, Rebecca, Chris and Emily.
