2011

PREMIERES

On 12/17/10, the Badger State Girls Choir will premiere a new work for treble choir in Menasha, WI.  The choir will take the work on their tour to Italy in late December, where it will be performed at the Vatican, among other places.  Partners in Praise Girls Choir will premiere a new work for treble choir and solo violin in 2/11 at the MMEA Convention in Minneapolis, MN. 

PERFORMANCES

Anne Frank: A Living Voice by the Ursuline Academy Treble Choir in Cinncinnati, OH on 3/16/10.  Transformations of Darkness and Light by the St. Olaf Orchestra conducted by Steven Amundson in Northfield, MN on 4/25/10.  An Uncommon Hero by Minneapolis Civic Orchestra conducted by Cary John Franklin in the Wayzata Community Church in Wayzata, MN on 5/16/10.  Selections from Anne Frank: A Living Voice by the Mahtomedi High School Women’s Choir conducted by Robert Pontious at the Chautauqua Fine Arts Center at Mahtomedi High School, Mahtomedi, MN, on 5/25/10.  Fable of Old Turtle by Keith Bear, Native American Flute and the Dakota Valley Symphony conducted by Stephen J. Ramsey on their 25th Anniversary Concerts at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center on 10/17 – 10/18/10.   

PUBLICATIONS

An Empty Place for string orchestra; Will She Wish to Marry Me?, an aria for bass, If I Am to Be Remembered, an aria for soprano, and Love Duet for soprano and bass, all from the opera Pocahontas.  For SATB chorus: A Quiet Place; Children of Light; The Eternal God; Domine Deus, Agnus Dei;  You Are Worthy, Our Lord and God; Lizzy Lindsay.  For treble choir: Holy, Holy, Holy; It is the Silence; Grandmother.  To be released in early 2011: Sunshine and Cloudless Sky for treble choir.  All works have been published by Ephraim Bay Publishing. 


 

2010

NEWS

The composer taught on the faculty of the National Federation of Music Club’s Junior Composers Institute in Minneapolis, MN, in July 2009. Recent commissions and awards include works for Partners in Praise Girls Choir and chamber ensemble; Women Performhers to premiere in 2010; a 2009 ASCAPlus award; an American Composers Forum Subito Award in 2008; and a Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship Finalist Award in 2007. The one-act opera Pocahontas, commissioned by the Virginia Arts Festival and the Virginia Opera commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, premiered in Norfolk, VA, in May 2007. In April 2010, her Transformations in Darkness and Light, commissioned by the National Kidney Foundation, will be performed by the St. Olaf Orchestra, conducted by Steven Amundson at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN. In conjunction with this performance, she is developing a model for an interdisciplinary campus focus with symposia on organ donation and transplantation.

PREMIERES

Invocation and Remembrance, an anthem for trumpet and organ, was introduced in June 2008 during the American Guild of Organists National Convention as part of the commissioned Minnesota Organ Book, Minneapolis, MN; a newly transcribed version of the work for concert band was presented in May 2009 by the Minnehaha Symphonic Wind Ensemble, with subsequent performances in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN.

PERFORMANCES

“We Come Only In Passing,” prologue from Pocahontas, was performed in 2007 by Magnum Chorum at St. Mark’s Cathedral, Minneapolis, MN; selections from Pocahontas were performed in 2009 recitals by Branch Fields, bass soloist, in Roanoke and Richmond, VA, with soprano Lisa Edwards Burrs, and in the Duluth Festival Opera Gala with soprano Amy Wolf. Invocation and Remembrance, was heard on Pipedreams Live! Organ Spectacular, to celebrate host Michael Barone’s 25th anniversary in 2008, Minneapolis, MN. Be Still and Know was performed by Northwestern College Choir, conducted by Timothy Sawyer, on its nine-concert tour of Arizona in 2009. Anne Frank: A Living Voice was presented in October by Vox Musica, conducted by Daniel Paulson, Sacramento CA.
