The composer reports two new commissions: Psalm 150 for four brass, timpani, and organ, by First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, KS; and Angels Visit When We Sing, anthem for SATB, flute, and organ, by the choir of Catawba College, Salisbury, NC. Rejoice in the Lord, a new hymn commissioned for the 100th Anniversary of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, KS, was introduced in April 2008. Two hymns, God’s Word Shall Live Forever and From the Plains of Tiny Places, that were commissioned by the College for its 125th anniversary, were sung at the worship service for the inauguration of Edward Leonard as the 13th President of Bethany College. Pelz was invited to be guest organist for the 100th anniversary celebration of Trinity Lutheran Church, August 31, Great Bend, KS.
PREMIERES
The commissioned anthem I Will Exalt You, O God, for SATB, trumpet and organ, was introduced October 21, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, KS.
PERFORMANCES
Magnificat for solo voice and organ, with the composer at the organ, was presented in December 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, Topeka, KS. Fantasy on ‘O Sons and Daughters’, for brass, timpani and organ, was performed March 23, 2008, at Plymouth Congregational Church, Minneapolis, MN.
