John Prescott

Dr. John Prescott has had a very busy schedule as a composer and performer during 1999 and 2000. In November of 1999, his commissioned work Faces of Janus was premiered by the Springfield Symphony Orchestra to excellent reviews. In that same month, The Reluctant Dragon, his children's opera with book and lyrics by James Billings, was performed by the SMSU Opera Workshop under the direction of Dr. Pearl Yeadon.

In May of 2000, Dr. Prescott and Dr. Grant Peters accompanied the SMSU Concert Chorale on their tour of Prague and Western Poland. While there, they performed Dr. Prescott's composition Toccata and Fugues for two trumpets and organ in six different cathedrals along with organist Lucas Chorosinski.

Dr. Prescott's contributions to the concert band literature also increased. Wide Horizon, a grade three composition, was commissioned and premiered in May, 2000 by the Eldon High School Band, Rex McCargar, director. In addition, he was commissioned to compose and conduct a new work for the Southwest District Honor Band in memory of John East, SMSU graduate and Willow Springs Band Director who passed away in November of 1999. This piece, entitled Locksley Hall, after the poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson, will be premiered on November 11.

Dr. Prescott recently had a grade 2 band composition, Hampton Court, published by Alfred Publications. Future commissions include a new grade 3 composition for Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
