Composers BureauAdelina Puccini TimofeyewBiography Adelina M. Puccini was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a child of six, her parents decided to visit her father's natal city of Lucca, Italy, where she had the privilege to study piano with the young and noted musician and composer, Maestro Lamberto Landi. On returning home to the U.S., she studied with Mrs. Grace Thompson Edmister, who became head of the Music Department of the University of New Mexico, and established the first symphony orchestra of Albuquerque. Adelina also studied ballet with the gracious English teacher, Dorothy Knight, and became well-known as a fine ballet dancer. However, she decided to become a musician, and after her graduation from the University of New Mexico, she went to Rome, Italy, where she studied with some of the great masters such as Dobici (composition), Scarpini (piano), Mortari (theory and compositions), etc., at the Conservatory of St. Cecilia. There, she received the title of Maestro di Composizione (Maestro of Composition). She also studied voice with the famous singers Tamayo, Ghibaudi and Labia. While in Rome, she met her future husband, Nicolai Timofeyew, a tenor, who was then the voice student of Cotogni. He went on to have an illustrious international career, singing in Italy, South America, and the United States (represented by the prestigious National Artists Corporation who at that time represented such notable talents as Beverly Sills, Jan Pierce, and Marilyn Horn). Throughout their marriage, Nicolai and Adelina performed many concerts for children and young people (including opera and regular concert performances) in such places as South America, and the United States. In Columbus, Ohio, Adelina taught at the College of St. Mary of the Springs. Upon the birth of their child, Kathy, they returned to New Mexico to be closer to family. Adelina's great joy is composition, especially the music inspired
by her great love for the Southwest, which has always been close to
her heart in whatever country she happened to find herself.
