Canary Burton

Biography
cburton.gif - 30.8 K

Canary Burton grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and El Paso, Texas, but her music began in Moscow, Idaho. Canary, then in her thirties, studied piano with Dr. Richard Neher at the University of Idaho. She formed several bands, moved to the east coast, listening and learning in the Washington, DC music scene, then traveled to Wellfleet, Cape Cod, Massachusetts where she played solo piano in local restaurants. She still lives on the Cape with her water view, her MAC/KORG and her cat. She hosts "The Latest Score," a music radio show every other Tuesday afternoon on WOMR FM, Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Canary's work progressed through jazz, pop and sound art into classical music based on those roots. She has a fascination with such greats as John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Chopin and Aaron Copland along with more recent developments between the electronic music of both classical and pop. She introduces her friends to Meredith Monk, Beth Denisch, Barbara Borden and Brian Eno.

One can find Canary's CD "piano music from Cape Cod" at many online venues but most prominately at CDBaby.com This album and the one to come are on her own label, Seabird Studio.
