Solo Works

  • What, When, and Where, 1997. Set of 3 improvisatory pieces for unaccompanied treble instrument.
    • A Virginia Labyrinth, 1996. Score is a musical labyrinth through which the performer chooses the path to determine the final musical material performed. 8 1/2 minutes if all paths are taken.
    • Windows, 1996. Score pages have "windows" which reveal material from the page behind. Performer chooses the order of the pages to determine the final musical material performed. 4 minutes.
    • Bridges, 1997. 4 major sections to be connected by improvisational "bridges" made up of material taken from the two sections being joined. 4 1/2 minutes plus "bridge" material.
  • Scenes for Piano, 1994. Winner - Delius Competition. 6 1/2 minutes. Audio Clip - 189 KB, WAV file
  • Three Dances for Violin, 1992. Winner - National League of American Pen Women Music Composition Competition, and National Federation of Music Clubs Glad Robinson Youse Competition. 7 minutes.
  • The Seasons, 1989. Winner - Roodepoort International Eisteddfod of South Africa Piano Competition, Composer's Guild International Competition. 16 minutes.
  • Signs of the Zodiac - A Suite for Solo Flute, 1988. 15 minutes.

Chamber Works

  • Blues for Basso, 2003. Jazzy piece for bass flute with 3 concert flutes. 3 minutes.
  • An Old Fashioned Nectar Ice Cream Soda, 2003. Flute quartet scored for Piccolo, Concert, Alto and Bass Flutes. 3 minutes.
  • From This Day Forward, 2002. Brass quartet for 2 trumpets and 2 trombones (alternate Horn in F part for 1st Trombone). Three short movements written originally for the composer's son's wedding. 5 minutes.
  • Prikichi, Chuchubi, and other Birds of Curacao, 2002. Written for from 2 to 4 concert flutes. Approx. 5 minutes, depending upon number of players.
  • Love Songs from Poems of Crystal, 2002. Voiced for Tenor and piano and also for Baritone and piano. Cycle of 4 songs. Poems by William Jay Smith. 7 minutes.
  • Arctic Suite for Flute Quartet, 2002. Written for 4 concert flutes with 2 flutists also playing simple percussion. 4 movements. 14 minutes.

  • Hallelujah, 2003. SSAATTBB rhythmic anthem with short tenor solo. Written in celebration of the life and work of choral composer Jean Berger (1907-2002). 5 minutes.
  • Mother Goose and More, Post-Nursery Rhymes, 2001. Humorous contemporary version of Mother Goose rhymes for a cappella mixed chorus. 5 minutes.
  • Our Friends at the Animal Fair, 1999. Two voices and piano. Eight short humorous songs for children's choir and up. Poems by William Jay Smith. 9 minutes.
  • Voyagers' Prayer, 1998. Sacred a cappella work for mixed choir. Text by the composer. 2 1/2 minutes.

  • Shepherd Boy, 1991. Winner - Composer's Guild International Competition. Carol for youth choir. Text by the composer. Two voices (with optional third) and keyboard accompaniment. 4 minutes.
  • Ruth, 1987(Revised 1996). A cappella anthem for mixed choir, 2 female soloists, 2 narrators. Text adapted from the Bible. 4 1/2 minutes.
  • A New Day, 1987 (Revised 1989). Winner - Composer's Guild International Competition. A cappella choral piece with optional keyboard accompaniment. Secular text by the composer (Text appropriate for most sacred settings). Divisi mixed chorus, tenor solo. 6 minutes.

Operas

  • Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (in progress) - chamber opera in 3 acts. Libretto by Dona Luongo Stein. Soprano, mezzo, tenor, baritone and chorus with woodwind quintet and keyboard synthesizer.
  • The Mirror, 1973 (revised 1983). Chamber Opera in 3 scenes. Libretto by the composer, based on Japanese folk tales. Soprano, mezzo, tenor and baritone with 2 recorders, koto, bells and gong. 19 minutes.

Orchestral Works
