Composers BureauRichard Crosby
He has served many roles in Phi Mu Alpha Siphonia. First elected to the National Executive Committee in 1988, he has served all but three years since then as Committeeman-at-large, National Secretary Treasurer, and is finishing his 2nd 3-year term as national President. He also served for 12 years as a trustee on the Sinfonia Educational Foundation. Dr. Crosby is relatively new to the world of serious composition. Prior to 1999 he had written a few art songs and one organ work. Since then, he has composed three songs on poems by Edgar Allan Poe, "Ships That Pass In the Night" by Paul Laurence Dunbar, a violin and piano work entitled "Marudvina," and "By The Waters of Memory" for solo piano. In addition, his Sonata for Trombone and Piano, commissioned by KMTA, is being published by the ITA Press through Southern Music, and his "Appalachian Variations" for symphonic band, commissioned by EKU for its centennial observance, is being published by TRN. His next major project is a triptych of Walt Whitman poems for mixed chrosu and symphonic band.
