Annual American Composers Update
Andrew Rindfleisch
Andrew Rindfleisch holds the position of Assistant Professor
of Music Composition at Cleveland (OH) State Univ. and
also serves as Musical Director/Conductor of the Phantom
Arts Ensemble, in Cambridge, MA, and as Associate Conductor
of the Cleveland Chamber Symphony. He won the 1997-98
Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. In 1998,
he participated in the Bowling Green (OH) State Univ.
New Music and Art Festival.
Premieres
In 1999,
Reverie (1999), for piano, was heard first
at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington (Feb.),
followed by performances in Brazil and Argentina, with
John Kamitsuka (Mar.), at Cleveland State Univ. (Mar.),
at the American Academy in Rome in New York, NY (Apr.),
and at Merkin Hall, New York, NY (May). The Phantom Arts
Ensemble introduced
What Vibes! (1998), for flute/piccolo,
clarinet/e-flat clarinet/bass clarinet, violin, cello,
piano, and percussion, Mar. 1999 at Brandeis Univ. Modus
Novus presented
Psalm (1998), for SATB a cappella
choir, June 1998 in Cologne, Germany. After a May 1998
premiere at the American Academy in Rome (Italy),
Hallucinations
(1997), for solo viola, was played in 1999 at Cleveland
State Univ. (Feb.) and at the American Academy in Rome
in New York, NY (Apr.).
Performances
1988 performances of
Tears (1994), for solo flute,
took place at Brandeis Univ. with Jean DeMart, in Boston,
MA, and at Bowling Green State Univ. with Mary Catherine
Jones (both in Oct.); at the Manhattan (NY) School of
Music with Karen Schweitzer (Apr.); and at the Pennsylvania
Academy of Music with Susan Klick (Feb.).
Trio
(1993), for piano, violin, and cello, was heard at the
American Academy in Rome (Italy), May 1998. In 1998,
Birthday
Music (1991), for piano, was played at the American
Academy in Rome (May), and at a Brandeis Univ. Phantom
Arts Ensemble program (Oct.). Maria Tegzes and Geoffrey
Burleson presented
Three Songs (1990, text by A.
M. Perez) at Brandeis Univ., Oct. 1998. The Wichita (KS)
State Univ. Chorale toured Kansas and Missouri with
Lady
Evergreen Song, for SATB a cappella choir with mezzo-soprano
solo, Nov. 1998.
