Annual American Composers Update
Cynthia Folio
SAI National Arts Associate Cynthia Folio serves as Associate
Professor of music at Temple Univ., in Philadelphia. The
Main Line Times, Oct. 1, 1998, called the sextet
Through Window's Lattices, a joint commission from
the Network for New Music and the Hildegard Chamber Players
to commemorate Hildegard von Bingen's 900th birthday,
"a variegated and engrossing work."
Performances
In 1999,
At the Edge of Great Quiet, for SSAA choir
and piano, was heard with the Fairbanks Choral Society,
led by Suzanne Summerville, Apr. 18; and with the Fort
Worth SAI chapter choir, Pat Leito, director, Mar. 6.
Trio, for flute, cello, and piano, was presented
in 1999 at the National Flute Association Convention in
Atlanta by Folio, Jeffrey Solow, and Michael Sheadel,
Aug. 22; and at Wake Forest Univ., with the Emrys Ensemble,
Feb. 28.
Desert Winds, for symphonic band, had
performances with the Temple Univ. Collegiate Band, led
by Brad Townsend, May 2; and with the Riverside Winds,
Roger Rickson conducting, in Norco, CA, Nov. 21. On Jan.
29, 1999, Harry Spaamay played in
Developing Hues,
for flute and bass clarinet, at the University of Chicago.
