Crawford Gates
SAI National Arts Associate Crawford Gates lives in Salt
Lake City, UT. Currently, he is working on an opera commissioned
by Milton Barlow of Washington, DC to premiere with the
Brigham Young Univ. Lyric Theatre in Jan. 2001.
Premieres
Premiered at the Mendelssohn Club of Rockford, IL was
Harvest Dance, for violin, horn, piano, and percussion,
featuring violinist Laura Boen, of the Chicago Lyric Opera
orchestra, and Jon Boen, first horn with the Chicago Lyric
Opera orchestra, June 13, 1999. Jon Boen will return to
solo with the Mendelssohn Club Chamber Orchestra in the
first performance of
Romanza for Horn and String
Orchestra, Feb. 20, 2000.
Performances
On Apr. 17, 1999 a concert titled "A Musical Celebration
of the Works of Crawford Gates" featured 22 of his short
works with by musicians from Madison, WI; Rockford, IL;
Milwaukee, WI; and Verona, WI, including Alison Dalton,
first violin with the Chicago Symphony; Paul Busselberg
and Rebecca Nyka, both 1998 Metropolitan Opera regional-audition
winners; and a 150-voice choir from 24 Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints congregations.
