Gay Holmes Spears** won the 1997 Tennessee
Music Teachers Association's Composer of the Year contest.
Premieres
In Mar. 1998, the Northeast Arkansas
Symphony premiered Firehawk. Music for the
Delta was heard on the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra
Chamber Music Series, Jan. 1998. Psalm Settings,
commissioned by the Tennessee Music Teachers Association,
received its first performance at the group's convention,
June 1998, with Venus Dixon Hamilton, mezzo-soprano;
Jared Spears, percussion; and the composer at the piano.
