George Perle
Premieres
The Chicago String Quartet gave the world premiere of
George Perle's
Brief Encounters, 14 movements for
string quartet, at DePaul Univ., in Chicago, May 14, 1999,
followed by the New York premiere at Kaufman Hall, New
York, NY, Jan. 15, 2000. On Dec. 6, 1999, works heard
first at the composer's 85th-birthday celebration in Merkin
Hall, New York, NY, were
Musical Offerings, for
piano, left hand alone, with Leon Fleisher; and
Nine
Bagatelles, for piano, with Horacio Gutierrez.
Performances
At the same program, Perle piano works were performed
by Michael Boriskin, Fleisher, Gutierrez, Seymour Lipkin,
and Russell Sherman. Other concerts in honor of his birthday
were scheduled at DePaul Univ., May 14, 1999; at Cooper
Union, with the DaCapo Chamber Players, Nov. 30, 1999
in New York, NY; and at the San Francisco (CA) Conservatory,
Mar. 27, 2000.
