Jan Krzywicki
SAI Friend of the Arts Jan Krzywicki lives in Philadelphia
where he serves as Associate Professor of Music Theory
at Temple Univ. In summer 1999, he had fellowhips at Yaddo
and at the MacDowell Colony; and on Mar. 5-9, 1999, he
was guest composer at Illinois Wesleyan Univ. A "Words
and Music of Jan Krzywicki" program on Philadelphia's
WRTI-FM radio station, including an interview by Leon
Bates, featured excerpts from
Concerto for Tuba and
Orchestra, String Quartet, Sonata for Trumpet and Piano,
and
Snow Night.
Premieres
The Temple Univ. Wind Symphony, conducted by Arthur Chodoroff,
presented
Prelude, Fugue and Chorale, Feb. 26,
1998, in Philadelphia. Orchestra 2001 has commissioned
Concertino, for oboe, trumpet, harp, and string
orchestra, and has scheduled it for a Feb. 19-20, 2000
premiere in Philadelphia. In 1999,
This is thy hour,
O Soul, for violin and choir, was heard first at Illinois
Wesleyan Univ., Mar. 5-9, followed by a performance by
I Cantori di New York, Mark Shapiro conducting, Mar. 9.

An all-Krzywicki concert at Washington State Univ. featured
Sonata for Trumpet and Piano; Come to Me, for a
cappella choir;
Dirge in Woods, for mezzo-soprano

Snow Night, Feb. 4, 1999 in Pullman.
The Lyric Brass Quintet played
Deploration in Baltimore,
MD.
