Annual American Composers Update
Katherine Hoover
Katherine Hoover** is a New York, NY resident. In Sept.,
she was a guest at the Grand Canyon (AZ) Music Festiva,
including the introduction of a new work for flute, Native
flute, and percussion, to be played by Clare Hoffman,
R. Carlos Nakai, and Gordon Gottlieb at several schools
on the Navaho and Hopi reservations as well as at two
concerts at Grand Canyon. In 1999-2000, she was scheduled
to give masterclasses at the New Music and Art Festival
in Bowling Green, OH (Oct.), and also in Texas and Connecticut.
The Parnassus Records
Night Skies CD of some of
her works received a good review in the May/June 1999
edition of
Fanfare. In process are a CD with Wendell
Dobbs of several of her flute pieces, and a
Parnassus
Recordings CD with Hoover playing her own flute compositions
among others, scheduled for spring 2000.
Premieres
Hoover's
String Quartet was premiered by the Colorado
Quartet in Albany, NY, Dec. 1999, to be followed by performances
in Oregon, Massachusetts, and other venues.
Performances
With soloist Sharon Robinson,
Stitch-te Naku, for
cello and orchestra, will be presented by the Long Beach
Symphony, under Gustav Meier, and by the Women's Philharmonic,
conducted by Apo Tsu, both in spring 2000. Hoover's
Sonata
for Oboe and Piano received a performance at the Bowling
Green New Music and Art Festival.
