Annual American Composers Update
Kent Kennan
Kent Kennan resides in Austin, TX, where he is retired
from the University of Texas. In Dec. 1998, Richard Stoltzman
and the New York Youth Orchestra played Kennan's transcription
of Prokofieff's Sonata Op. 94, at Carnegie Hall, New York,
NY.
Premieres
The clarinet/piano arrangement of Kennan's
Threnody
premiered in Kent, OH, with Dennis Nygren and Lois Rova
Ozanich, Dec. 8, 1998.
Performances
Austin station KMFA honored Kennan's 86th birthday, broadcasting
recordings of five works. In 1999, pianist Timothy Woolsey
performed
Retrospectives (12 pieces) in Austin,
Jan. 11; at the TMTA Convention, San Antonio, TX, June
15; and in Washington, DC, Feb. 28. Jenny Pratt and Shimako
Satsuka played
Sonata for Trumpet and Piano at
the Boston (MA) Univ. Tanglewood Institute Workshops Open
Recital, in Boston, and at several other venues. According
to ASCAP,
Night Soliloquy was heard many times,
including Canada and the United Kingdom, Apr. and July
1998.
