Annual American Composers Update
Martin Mailman
As of Sept. 1999, SAI National Arts Associate Martin Mailman
has retired as Regents Professor at the University of
North Texas College of Music, in Denton, but remains there
as Composer in Residence. SAI Philanthropies, Inc. has
commissioned
Vocalise, for voice and piano, to
be published by
C.
F. Peters and to premiere at the national SAI convention,
Aug. 2000 in Dallas.
Premieres
The University of North Texas Orchestra, under Anshel
Brusilow, introduced
Dance Imageries, commissioned
by the Ben E. Keith Foundation, Mar. 3, 1999. On Nov.
14, 1999, Mathew Mailman led the Oklahoma City Univ. Band
in the first performance of
Pledges, dedicated
to the conductor.
