Annual American Composers Update
Roger C. Vogel
Roger C. Vogel resides in Athens, GA,
where he serves as Professor of Music in theory and
composition at the University of Georgia. He reports
that he had the good fortune to be married to Ellen
Ritchey on Dec. 21, 1998.
Premieres
As part of the Artburst Concert Series
in Birmingham, AL, Craig Hultgren gave the first performance
of Incantation, for solo cello, May 2, 1999.
Performances
The International Horn Society 31st
Annual Symposium, held at the University of Georgia,
featured Cornucopia selections Invention,
Aria, and Waltz of the Venus Flytraps, for
French horns, with Richard Deane, Andrei Gluhfov, Jia
Hui, and Bruce Kenney, May 23, 1999. In 1998, Lawrence
Gwozdz toured Germany with Partita for Saxophone
Solo at Saint Marien Kirche, Flensburg, Oct. 26;
at Marienkirche, Grundhof, Oct. 27; and at Schifferkirche,
Bad Arnis, Oct. 28. Lynn Nicole Cunningham, flute, and
Eric Hoover, alto flute, played Sirens at the
U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY, Oct. 11, 1998.
Eine Kleine Snailmusik was performed by Ellen
Edwards, voice; Edward Sandor, trumpet; David Starkweather,
cello; and Vogel, piano, at the College Music Society
Southern Chapter Annual Conference at the University
of Central Florida, in Orlando, Feb. 19, 1999. At the
Southeastern Composers League Annual Conference, at
the University of Mississippi, in Mississippi State,
Liana Embovica-Rifkin presented Sonata No. 2,
for piano, Feb. 26, 1999.
