Annual American Composers Update

Sharon Elery Rogers

Sharon Elery Rogers**, a free-lance composer of over 450 organ, piano, choral, and handbell publications, for 16 national publishers, serves as Director of Music and Organist at the Auburn Road Presbyterian Church in Venice, FL, where she resides. The Episcopal Church diocese in Michigan commissioned The New Holy Eucharist, a musical setting of the Episcopal liturgy.

Performances

Caroling Medley, for two or three octaves of handbells, was heard at the Englewood, FL First Methodist Church Christmas Concert and recorded on radio station WENG. At the Montreat Music Conference, June 22-27, 1999 in North Carolina, some of her handbell pieces (Jeffers, Lorenz, and Alfred Publishers) were performed by several hundred ringers and directors. Rogers directed Now Thank Thee (Voice of the Rockies), an anthem for SATB choir with organ and piano, at the Northport, FL First Presbyterian Church, Nov. 1, 1998. On Nov. 25, 1998, area massed choirs sang Thanksgiving Concertato on "Now Thank We All Our God" at the annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Longboat Key.
