Annual American Composers Update
Steven Stucky
Steven Stucky, of Ithaca, NY, serves
as Professor of Music at Cornell Univ., in Ithaca, and
as the Los Angeles Philharmonic's New Music Advisor.
He is writing commissioned concerti for Evelyn Glennie,
percussion, and for Michala Petri, recorder.
Premieres
On Oct. 29, 1999, Sanford Sylvan, baritone,
soloed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, under Esa-Pekka
Salonen, in the premiere of American Music. Curarteto
Latinoamericano will introduce Nell'ombra, nella
luce, for string quartet, Feb. 12, 2000 in Pittsburgh.
Performances
The Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music
Group, played Boston Fancies and Ad Parnassum,
Nov. 8, 1999, conducted by the composer. Under the baton
of Harold Bauer, the New Philharmonic performed Stucky's
Double Flute Concerto, Nov. 12-13, 1999 in Chicago.
The London Sinfonietta, under Esa-Pekka Salonen, presented
Boston Fancies, Dec. 11, 1999. Throughout 1998
and 1999, Chanticleer gave worldwide performances of
Cradle Songs.
