Annual American Composers Update
Arthur Berger
Arthur Berger, Irving Fine Professor
Emeritus of Music at Brandeis University and retired
from the composition faculty of the New England Conservatory
of Music, lives and teaches privately in Cambridge,
MA. In June 2000, he was one of four composers included
in Boston Millennium Leaders, an exhibit of photographs
at the Boston Public Library. Among his speaking engagements,
he participated in The Copland-Sessions Concerts: American
Music Coming of Age, a symposium in Weill Recital Hall
at Carnegie Hall, New York, NY, on Apr. 1, 2000. The
manuscript for his book of reflections on the musical
scene since 1930, based on his writings as a critic,
reviewer, and lecturer, is now in the hands of its publisher,
The University of California Press. Looking toward Berger's
90th birthday in 2002, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project
at New England Conservatory, conducted by Gil Rose,
continues to perform Berger's orchestral music and record
it for CD release; Perspectives II is scheduled
for Jan. 29, 2001. A brochure of Berger's works is available
from Rosalie Calabrese Management, and his website is
www.arthurberger.com.
