Annual American Composers Update
Dennis Kam
Dennis Kam was a recipient of a 1999/2000 Individual Artist
Fellowship from the Division of Cultural Affairs of the
Florida Arts Council. He served as guest composer at the
Music of the 21st Century (Voices of a New Century) Festival
at the University of Hawaii, in Honolulu, Mar. 6-8, 2000.
Premieres
As part of the Jacksonville Symphony's Golden Anniversary
Festival,
Seeing Frankenthaler, for flute, bassoon,
and harp, commissioned by both the symphony and the Jacksonville
Museum of Modern Art, was premiered by Rhonda Cassano,
Mark Romatz, and Kayo Ishimaru on Feb. 26, 2000 at the
Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts Roberts E.
Jacoby Symphony Hall.
Performances
At the Music of the 21st Century (Voices of a New Century)
Festival at the University of Hawaii, Mar. 6-8, 2000,
Kam heard
Fantasy Variations, with Laurie Lake,
flute, and Robert Pollock, piano; and
Paradigm Green
for piano.
Vermillion Lines, for two clarinets
and piano, featuring Margaret Donaghue and Dawn McConkie,
was choreographed by Delma Iles, artistic director of
Momentum Dance Company, for performance Jan. 21-22, 2000
at the Dances for the Millennium program held at the Colony
Theater, in Miami Beach.
