Diane Thome
Diane Thome** was invited to participate
in the Visiting Composers Series at the College Conservatory
of Music, University of Cincinnati (OH) in May 2000,
where a concert of her music was presented and she addressed
several student seminars. She has received a Royalty
Research Grant for a new recording by
Centaur
Records of her most recent electroacoustic music.
Performances
Composed as a computer-realized solo
work for dance, UnfoldEntwine has been produced
at the Bumpershoot Festival of the Arts, in Seattle,
WA, Shannon Hobbs, choreographer, Sept. 5, 1999; at
a Sonic Explorations Concert at the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music, Shellie Cash, choreographer,
May 5, 2000; at the Act Theatre, with the Seattle New
Music Ensemble, Sept. 25, 1999; at the International
Computer Music Festival, in Beijing, China, Oct. 24,
1999; at the Society of Composers Conference, held at
Marylhurst (OR) University, Oct. 30, 1999; at the Evergreen
State College New Music Northwest Festival, in Olympia,
WA, Nov. 6, 1999; and at the University of Glasgow (Scotland)
ElectroAcoustic Music Spring Festival, Feb 29. 2000.
Bright Air/Brilliant Fire, for flute and computer-realized
sound, has been played by Patricia Spencer, at Bard
College, in New York, Sept. 27, 1999, and at the International
Computer Music Festival in Beijing, Oct. 22, 1999; by
Kristin Bacchiocchi at the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music Sonic Explorations Concert,
May 5, 2000; and by Sarah Bassingthwaighte at a Contemporary
Group Concert at the University of Washington, in Seattle,
June 1, 2000. In 2000, Ann Cummings presented Ringing,
Stillness, Pearl Light, for piano and tape, at a
Western Washington University Contemporary Series Concert,
in Bellingham, Feb. 1, 2000; at the Seattle Art Museum,
Mar. 5; at the Frye Art Museum, in Seattle, Apr. 2;
and at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts,
in Olympia, May 7. Mezzo-soprano Isabelle Ganz, sang
Levadi (Alone), for soprano and tape, on 2000
programs at the University of Kentucky Contemporary
Music Series, in Louisville, Feb. 12, 2000; and at the
University of Houston (TX), Mar. 22. Other works heard
in Seattle in 2000 included Worship the Lord,
for SATB choir, with the Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble, Loren
Ponten, conductor, at St. Mark's Cathedral, Apr. 1;
and Unseen Buds, for SATB choir and tape, with
the University Chorale, Geoffrey Boers, conductor, at
the University of Washington, May 22, 2000.
