Annual American Composers Update
Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand
SAI Patroness Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand**,
selected Woman of the Year 2000 by the American Biographical
Institute (ABI), of Cambridge, England, was presented
with a 24K gold medal from the Institute by Mary Kay
Budak, Indiana State Representative, on Sept. 30 at
the LeMans International Boys Academy, in Rolling Prairie,
where Wiegand serves as organist and music teacher.
Also on the same date, Wiegand chaired the school's
first interfaith liturgy service, sponsored by the American
Guild of Organists Northwest Indiana chapter. The service,
sung by the Michigan City Interfaith Choir, under Wiegand,
was covered by WNDU-TV and channel 99 Public Access
television, three newspapers, and the American Organist
and Piano Guild Notes magazines. She has received
a 2000-01 ASCAP Popularity Award, for $150, the eighth
consecutive time she has won that honor; and has received
a commission and appointment from Indiana governor Frank
O'Bannon as a Distinguished Hoosier with commendations
on "bravery and courage in facing musical challenges,"
for her work as a volunteer at the St. Anthony Memorial
Hospital as an organist at daily mass, and in music
therapy and telecare. The hospital has the certificate
and letter on display. On Sept. 30, 2000, she played
her hymns Holy Lord God, Father of All and Let
the Glories of God Ring Out at an interfaith service
at the LeMans Academy.
Performances
