James Mobberley
James Mobberley won the 2000 Midwest Composers' Competition.
In 2000, he held the position of Composer-in-Residence
with the Fort Smith (AR) Symphony and with the newEar
Ensemble of Kansas City, MO.
Premieres
Many Voices, One Future: Fanfare premiered Sept.
29, 2000 with the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory
Wind Ensemble, Sarah McKoin conducting. Under the baton
of Virko Baley, Mark George soloed with the Cleveland
(OH) Chamber Symphony in the first performance of
Concerto
for Piano and Chamber Orchestra, May 21, 2000. On
Mar. 18, 2000,
Shebam, for mixed sextet, was played
first by the newEar Ensemble, led by Michael Willen, in
Kansas City.
Give 'em Hell! was introduced Mar.
11, 2000 by pianist Robert Weirich at the Harry S. Truman
Library and Museum, in Independence, MO.
North Coast
Cool, for percussion ensemble, was presented Apr.
1, 2000 by members of the Merit Music Program in Chicago,
IL.
Performances
At the International Festival of Contemporary Music, held
in Sofia, Bulgaria, Mario Anguelov soloed in
Caution
to the Winds, for piano and tape, June 11, 2000. The
Metro Theater Company produced
Music from ICEMAN
at the Assitej Conference, at the Kennedy Center, in Washington,
DC, May 31, 2000.
Piano Concerto No. 2 was played
by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Baley, conductor, May
22, 2000. On Apr. 29, 2000, John Jeter led the Fort Smith
Symphony in
Arena.
Critical Mass, for organ
and tape, was heard in Munich, Germany, with organist
Karel Paukert, July 9, 2000.
