Michael Mauldin's Birds in Winter:
Six Preludes for Harp was selected again as a
required work for the USA International Harp Competition.
Premieres
Spirit of the Living God, Come,
comissioned by St. John's United Methodist Church,
in Albuquerque, for its 50th anniversary celebration,
was premiered by the church's choirs, handbells and
brass, conducted by Jose Daniel Flores, Director of
Music Ministries, on Dec. 25, 2000.
Performances
The composer conducted the New Mexico
Symphony Orchestra in a pre-recording open-rehearsal/performance
of five of his works at Sandia Presbyterian Church
in Albuquerue on Jan. 21, 2000: High Places, Dawn
at San Juan Mesa, Enchanted Land, Three Jemez Landscapes,
and Fajada Butte. At the University of New
Mexico on Feb. 20, 2000, Carrie Koffman, saxophone,
and Lawrence Blind, piano, performed Three Songs
for Saxophone and Piano. John Lee led the Junior
Youth Orchestra of Greater Fort Worth in a concert
of Mauldin's works on May 8, 2000, including High
Places, Wilderness Scenes, Dawn at San Juan Mesa,
Llanos (with Mauldin guest conducting), and Mauldin's
arrangement of Bist du bei mir. The Symphony
Orchestra of Albuquerque played Llanos on July
22-23, 2000, conducted by the composer.
