I look forward to hearing from some of my old friends
and acquaintances. A CD of my music will be released early
in 2001 on the Hungaroton label, including my
Quartet
for Strings with Soprano in the Last Movement; Concerto
Grosso No. 1, for nine instruments;
Four Inventions
and a Fugue, for bassoon, piano, and soprano in the
fourth invention;
Reflux, a concerto for amplified
contrabass and wind ensemble;
Song for Soprano,
with alto flute and cello; and
Kindred Spirits,
for mandolin, guitar, and harp." In 1999, SAI National
Arts Associate M. William Karlins was guest lecturer at
the Wiener Hochschule fźr Musik (Mar. 17), and visiting
guest composer at Bowdoin College (Apr. 9-12).
Premieres
Kindred Spirits, commissioned by the Northwestern
University School of Music, for mandolin, guitar, and
harp, received its first performance from the Marinos
Trio, presented by CUBE May 22, 2000 at the Arts Club
of Chicago.

At a concert presented by Contemporary Music VII at Northwestern
University, Evanston, IL., Apr. 1, 2000,
Four Inventions
and a Fugue, was heard with Jeffrey McCray, bassoon;
Diana Schmźck, piano; and Tony Arnold, soprano. A Musik
in der UniversitŠt recital in Bonn, Germany, May 21, 2000,
included
Drei Kleine Cembalostücke, with Paul
Klecka, harpsichord. Cliff Colnot led Chicago Symphony
Orchestra musicians in
Concerto Grosso No. 1 on
a Symphony Center Presents concert, May 24, 2000. In 1999,
Saxophone Quartet No. 1 and
Night Light (Saxophone
Quartet No. 3) had performances with the Vienna Saxophone
Quartet, at Stadtinitiative Wien, Mar. 16; and with the
Vision Quartet, at Lake Forest (IL) College and at Bowdoin
College, in Brunswick, ME, Apr. 11. The Somogyi String
Quartet and Anna P‡nti presented
Quartet for Strings
with Soprano in the Last Movement, Mar. 18, 1999 at
the Hungarian Radio Marble Hall, as part of the Budapest
Spring Festival.
