Annual American Composers Update
Arthur Frackenpohl
Arthur Frackenpohl has commissions from the Palmyra-Macedon
(NY) Select Choir for Two Psalms, for a cappella
choir; and from the Rip Van Winkle Brass Quintet for
Columbia March.
Performances
Centennial Celebration was played by The Orchestra
of Northern New York, Kenneth Andrews, conductor, in
Potsdam, NY, April 21, 2001. On April 22, 2001, Adirondack
Brass Rag had a performance with the Florida Brass
Quintet in Sarasota. The Frackenpohl Piano Festival
at Bates College in Lewiston, ME, featured 57 performers,
11 pianos, and 19 pieces including Old Forge Festival
Polka, for piano duet; Tango for Two and
Shanghai Mabel, for two pianos; and Intro
and Rag and Musical Chair Variations, for four pianos,
16 hands, June 19, 2001. Lovers Love the Springs
was sung by the Bennington (VT) Choral Society, August
24, 2001. Heard at SUNY College at Potsdam in 2001 were
Two Movements for Horn and Piano, on a faculty
recital, June 26; and Sonata for Clarinet and Piano,
The Cobbler's Bench (the third movement of Concerto
for Bassoon and Piano), and Slow Rag and Fast March
for Clarinet, Bassoon and Piano, at an alumni recital,
July 14.
