Annual American Composers Update
Daniel Dorff
Daniel Dorff is working on a chamber work to premiere
May 20, 2002, as part of the Philadelphia Orchestra's
Sound All Around series, with Charlotte Blake
Alston, narrator.
Premieres
On May 14, 2001, in Bel Air, MD, It Takes Four to
Tango, for string orchestra, was introduced by the
Milton Wright High School Orchestra, Sheldon Bair conducting.
Rossen Milanov will conduct the Haddonfield Symphony
in the premiere of The Kiss (After the Painting by
Gustav Klimt), February 16, 2002.
Performances
Heard throughout 2001 with narrator Joanna Cortright
in about 40 performances on Minnesota Orchestra Kinder
Konzerts, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, for
narrator and SATB octet, will have a performance March
1, 2002, on the Philadelphia Orchestra's Next Step
series, narrated by Cortright. The Chicago Symphony
chamber music series included Three Fun Fables,
for narrator and SATB octet, with Carl Grapentine narrating,
April 10, 2001. A Chicago Youth Symphony program featured
The Tortoise and the Hare, for narrator and orchestra,
September 1, 2001. Under Stuart Malina, the Harrisburg
Symphony is scheduled to play Billy and the Carnival,
for narrator and orchestra, February 17, 2002.
