SAI Patroness Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand has received
a 2001-02 ASCAP Popularity Award, her tenth consecutive
one; and an award from the National Federation of
Music Clubs Outreach project (music in hospitals)
for her 1,000 volunteer hours in music therapy and
as hospital chapel organist at St. Anthony Memorial
Hospital. She holds a new job as organist and choir
director at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception
Church. In 2001, she participated in a concert series
for piano and violin, June 3; and for choir with the
Pueri Cantores Singers, August 26, both at the Barker
Mansion; and for piano and violin, September 8 at
the Marquette Mall. Indiana governor Frank O'Bannon
awarded her a commission as a Distinguished Hoosier.
Her manuscripts, biographical material, recordings,
and publicity have been added to the Texas Women's
University's Blagg-Huey Library, where they are available
to researchers, historians, and musicians through
the library staff under controlled conditions.
Premieres
On August 15, 2001, Dear Mary, Our Lady of the
Snows premiered at the Our Lady of the Snows Shrine
in Belleville, IL, conducted by Orin Johnson.
