Annual American Composers Update
Gregory Danner
SAI Friend of the Arts Greg Danner won the Delius Composition
Contest for his trio Time, for soprano, clarinet, and
piano. He has also received an ASCAP standard award
for 2001. He is professor of music and coordinator of
academic studies in music at Tennessee Technological
University.
Premieres
On April 7, 2001, Catch the Wind, for children's
choir with brass quintet, premiered with the Cumberland
Children's Chorus, Linda Ferreira, director. Joseph
Hermann led the Tennessee Tech University symphony band
in the first performance of Country Dances, February
16, 2001. The College Music Society southern chapter
conference included the premiere of Singing Wood, for
clarinet and marimba, with Keith Koons and Jeffery Moore,
March 1, 2001, in Valdosta, GA. Shazam!, commissioned
by the Brass Arts Chamber Quintet, was introduced by
the group on several programs during fall 2001. Under
Mark Kinzer in December 2001, the Dickson County (TN)
High School Band presented Footprints, for concert
band, written for the band.
Performances
Walls of Zion had a performance by the University
of Florida concert band, Erick Stallings conducting.
