Gay Holmes Spears teaches in the music department
at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. She has a
commission from Charlene Parkinson, director of Performing
Arts Ministries at the Ellisville (MO) United Methodist
Church, for Wind and Flame (A Celebration of Pentecost).
Premieres
On September 20, 2001, Sonata for Horn and Piano,
written for Michael Hernon, had its premiere, with
Hernon and Delana Easley, at the University of Tennessee,
in Martin. Exultatio! will receive its first
performance from the Webster Brass Quintet, February
17, 2002, at the Webster University Faculty Composers'
Concert.
Performances
Heard in 2001 with the Ellisville United Methodist
Church Chancel Choir, directed by Parkinson, were
Psalm 92, June 3, and Psalm 96: A New Song
(November). Reflections on "Wondrous Love"
was played by the Linfield College-Community Band,
in McMinnville, OR, November 11, 2001, conducted by
Joan Paddock. Tapestries for 13 Winds, Keyboards,
and Percussion has been scheduled by the St. Louis
Wind Symphony, Chamber Series, Dan Presgrave, director,
for April 2002.
