Leslie Bassett
Premieres
Leslie Bassett's Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra
had its United States premiere October 16, 2001, with
Clifford Leaman and the University of Michigan Symphony
Orchestra, Kenneth Kiesler conducting, at Hill Auditorium
in Ann Arbor.
Performances
On October 6-7, 2001, two University of Michigan programs
were devoted to Bassett's chamber music. Works heard
February 6-8, 2001, when he was guest composer at SUNY
College at Fredonia, were Sounds, Shapes and Symbols
and Lullaby, with the Fredonia Wind Ensemble,
Paula Holcomb conducting; Trombone Quartet; Nonet,
with the Fredonia Faculty Ensemble, David Rudge, conducting;
and Song and Dance, with Raymond Stewart, tuba,
and Phyllis East, piano. H. Robert Reynolds led the
University of Michigan Symphonic Band in Lullaby,
April 4, 2001. On February 4, 2001, Trombone Quartet
was played by the Syracuse (NY) Symphony Orchestra section.
