Annual American Composers Update

P. Peter Sacco

SAI Friend of the Arts P. Peter Sacco passed away August 12, 2000, at home in Ashland, OR, at age 71 of cancer. On January 20, 2001, a "Celebration of Peter Sacco's Life in Music" program took place at the Unitarian Center in Ashland.


Premieres

Works heard first at the Celebration were The Resolve, with cellist Lisa Truelove and pianist Camilla Carter; and All Lovely Things, with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Claire and pianist Theodora Sacco. Arthur Shaw conducted the Rogue Valley Symphony in the premiere of Elegy for Strings, November 16, 2000, at Southern Oregon University At Theodora Sacco's piano-studio recital, March 12, 2000, in Ashland, the composer introduced his Theme and Five Variations.


Performances

The Celebration included Variations on "An die Musik" for piano four-hands, with Alexander Tutunov and Kristina Foltz; Sea Whispers, with Rhett Bender, saxophone, and Tutunov, piano; Jazz for Annaliesa, with pianist Annaliesa Harris; My Gift to Jesus, with Kurt Berentsen, baritone, and Theodora Sacco, piano; and I Will Praise Thee, O Lord, With my Whole Heart, with Brian Kerns, tenor, and Jane Manning, piano.
