Annual American Composers Update
Robert Boury
In May, at the 2001 Commencement at the University
of Arkansas, in Little Rock, SAI National Arts Associate
Robert Boury's setting of the Alma Mater was
sung by over 1,000 new graduates and the faculty.
Premieres
Poem, for flute and piano, was given its premiere
in May 2001 by Heather Patrick-Orozco and Ann Patrick-Green
at an SAI scholarship benefit concert at the Presbyterian
Church of the Covenant, in Costa Mesa, CA. In November
2001, pianist Norman Boehm introduced Sonatina
and Sailor's Delight (variations on Sailor's
Hornpipe in the style of Bach) as part of a full-length
concert of Boury's music, with Suzanne Bannister, soprano,
at both Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas.
Performances
The 2001 Commencement at the University of Arkansas
included Boury's Prelude in C, with Peter Edwards,
keyboards. In October 2001, the Montclaire String Quartet
played Four Country Caprices on the Music at
the Mansion series in Oglebay Park, in Wheeling, WV,
and at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, in Charleston,
WV.
