Annual American Composers Update
Roger C. Vogel
Roger C. Vogel resides in Athens, GA, where he serves
as Professor of Music in theory and composition at the
University of Georgia, in Athens.
Premieres
Burma Shave Songs, for men's choir, alto saxophone,
and piano, was premiered March 31, 2001, by the University
of Georgia Men's Glee Club, Allen Crowell, director,
and saxophonist Kenneth Fischer. At the College Music
Society Southern Chapter Meeting at Valdosta (GA) State
University, Lisa Bartholow, flute, and Fischer, soprano
saxophone, introduced Mythic Quest, March 1,
2001.
Performances
Incantation, for solo cello, was performed on
March 20, 2001, by Craig Hultgren on the ArtBurst Concert
Series in Birmingham, AL. Cats and Bats and Things
With Wings, for SATB choir and piano, was sung April
26, 2001 by the Gainesville (GA) College Chorale, Lynn
Lathem, conductor, at Brenau University in Gainesville.
At the University of Georgia, Ellen Ritchey, voice;
Fischer, alto saxophone; and Anatoly Sheludyakov, piano
played In Darkness, April 30, 2001. The Classical
Guitarathon at Hamline University, in St. Paul, MN,
included Late Afternoon on the Steps, from The
Guitarist's Day, with guitarist David Crittenden,
May 6, 2001. Oboe, for voice and oboe, was presented
August 8, 2001, by Ritchey and John Corina at the International
Double Reed Society Conference, held at West Virginia
University in Morgantown.
