Annual American Composers Update

Sydney Hodkinson

Sydney Hodkinson will be teaching composition at Indiana University, in Bloomington, for spring 2002, and will return to the Aspen (CO) Music Festival for the coming summer, teaching composition and conducting the Contemporary Ensemble.


Premieres

Gwendolyn Burgett soloed in the first performance of Wind Sculptures (2000), for marimba, at the PAS Convention, held November 15, 2000, in the Union Station Grand Hall, in Dallas, TX. On July 9, 2001, A Friendly Gift (2001), for piano, premiered at the Aspen (TX) Music Festival, with Ann Schien. Cantata Sancta (2000), for choir, soprano and baritone solos, organ and chamber quintet, commissioned by the University of Evansville (IN), was introduced on October 23, 2001, by the University Chamber Choir, J. Poon, conductor, Douglas Reed, organist

Alte Liebeslieder, Book IV: "Fingertip Words" (1981), for soprano, oboe, cello, piano, and percussion, had a performance at the Longy School of Music, in Boston, MA, with Janna Baty, N. Dimock, F. Ferrigno, and R. Schulz, February 24, 2001. On May 4, 2001, at Oberlin (OH) College, Michael Rosen, Scott Forth, and Adam Sluvinski presented Drawings, Set #9 (1977), for percussion trio; and Hodkinson led the Oberlin Chamber Ensemble in Serenata Oscura (1998).
