Premieres

OnMarch 8, 2002, Arthur Gottschalk'sFakebook II was premiered by pianist JamesSifford at the Symposium of World Musics, held at Texas Tech >University, in Lubbock. Heard first in Houston, TX in 2002 were Fanfare for Michael, for two antiphonal brass quintets, directed by David Kirk, at Rice >University, March 14; and The Village Cantors, with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Marvin Hamlisch, conductor, at Jones Hall, April 28.


Performances

2002 performances at Rice >University included Trio:  American Nights, with violinist Kenneth Goldsmith, pianist Joanne Ritacca, and bassoonist Jeffrey Robinson, January 29; and Fakebook II, with Milton Ruben Laufer, October 2, 2002. On February 10, 2002, Sonatina Casada appeared on the Sounds New concert series, Herbert Bielawa, director, at San Francisco (CA) State University. David Gerhart directed the California State University-Long Beach Percussion Ensemble in Whack! May 7, 2002.  Under the baton of Donald Portnoy, Goldsmith and the Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra played Fantasy Variations,, at the Spoleto Festival.


Publications

Sonata for Tenor Trombone, trombone and piano;  Sonata for Bass Tuba, tuba and piano; The Village Cantors (Dayeinu), three tenors and orchestra; Fanfare for Michael, Requiem:  For the Living, choir, four vocal soloists, and orchestra.
