Charles Fitts
Charles Fitts participated in the Aspen Composers' Conference, in August 2002, with his presentation, "Influence of Scientific Discovery on Musical Structures and Styles," making use of his background in mathematics and physics in drawing parallels between Quantum Mechanics and the 20th-century trend toward deep musical structures such as serialism. He has been commissioned by the Conroe (TX) Symphony Orchestra to write a A Town in America for a gala premiere in April 2003, with Leigh Shipman, soprano, and the orchestra under the direction of Robert Zwick. Premieres
The world premiere of Sanctus Sestina, for choir and woodwind quintet, occurred in August 2002 with Gerardo Rabago and his National Arts Center Choir in Mexico City's National ArtsCenter.
Performances
Birds Imitating Flutists, a suite for flute and piano, was performed in October 2002 at the Mid-Atlantic Chamber Music Society in Wilmington, DE, by Carol Bestie, principal flute of the Delaware Symphony, and Christine Delbeau of the University of Delaware faculty.
