The 2003 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 95, Number 2 Charles FittsCharles Fitts participated in the Aspen Composers' Conference, in August 2002, with his presentation, "Influence of Scientific Discovery on Musical Structures and Styles," making use of his background in mathematics and physics in drawing parallels between Quantum Mechanics and the 20th-century trend toward deep musical structures such as serialism. He has been commissioned by the Conroe (TX) Symphony Orchestra to write a A Town in America for a gala premiere in April 2003, with Leigh Shipman, soprano, and the orchestra under the direction of Robert Zwick.
