David Uber

David Uber has a commission from Roger Behrend and the US Navy Band for Visions, for brass quartet.  His recent arrangements include Mississippi Mud, for brass quartet, and Sweet and Low, for flute choir.   The 2003 Sterns Directory has a listing for him, and the Spring 2002 issue of Flute Talk contains a review of his Trialogue (Alry), for flute, oboe, and clarinet.  For the 44th consecutive year, he has received an ASCAP composition award.  Uber's trombone-quartet arrangement of Give me that Old Time Religion, published by Wehr's Music House, was played first by the Jamie Wehr Ensemble at an ITA Central Florida Chapter program, spring 2002.  The publisher also has released Uber's teaching method Fifty Short Beginning Studies for the Tuba Player.  For more information and an updated catalog, please contact the composer at 283 Mountain View Rd., Tinmouth, VT 05773, telephone (802) 446-2630.

Premieres

Sinfonietta, for low brass ensemble with percussion, was commissioned and presented by Winslow Morris at the ITEA Conference, May 30, 2002, in Greensboro, NC.

Performances

David Spies conducted The Almighty Brass, November 14, 2002, at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  As part of the Global Women's Project, the McPherson Brass Choir played City of Flags, April 21, 2002.  Legend of the Purple Hills, for tuba and piano, was heard with soloist David Wilson, April 25, 2002, at Southwestern State University, in Weatherford, OK.  A performance of Suite for Four Tubas occurred in spring 2002 at Bowling Green (OH) State University, directed by Velvet Brown. On August 17, 2002, the Harmony Ridge Music Festival, in East Poultney, VT, featured "Spiritual" from The Power and the Glory, City of Flags, Liturgy, Chorale and Mache, and Two Hymns, all for large brass choir, conducted by the composer.
