The 2003 American Composers Update

as published in PAN PIPES, Volume 95, Number 2

Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand*

SAI Patroness Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand gave a recital on an M. P. Moeller pipe organ, with works by Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Purcell, Boellman, Marcello, and the composer (see Performances) at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, where she serves as music director and organist.  She has won her 11th consecutive ASCAP popularity award, this one based on the video that she produced in November 2001, A Time to Pray in Song and Word, which included three of her compositions and a CD on which she was vocalist and pianist.  Along with publicity and recordings, the video has been accepted for the National Federation of Music Clubs American Composers display to be exhibited at each National Convention, and has been requested for her permanent display at Texas Woman's University.  The National Federation of Music Clubs has given the International Interfaith Choir, directed by Wiegand, awards in sacred music and in music outreach.  A life member of SAI, she has received a commission for a work for the fraternity's 100th-anniversary celebration, August 2003 in Dearborn, MI.  She is a board member of the diocese of Gary chapter of the National Pastoral Musicians and belongs to the American Guild of Organists.

Performances

At the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church organ concert, Wiegand played her God the Blessed Trinity, The Child's Name was Jesus, Dear Mary Our Lady of the Snows, Holy Lord God Father of All, The Answer is in Jesus, and As I Knelt to Pray before Him.
