John Hilliard
John Hilliard has been commissioned by the Staunton
(VA) Music Festival for a concerto for piano and chamber orchestra,
for performance in the summer festival.
Premieres
In 2002, Four Partita Movements, for piano,
was played first by Carsten Schmidt, at Sarah Lawrence College in New York and
at Yamaguchi (Japan) University (January); and as part of the James
Madison University (JMU) 22nd Annual Contemporary Music Festival,
chaired by Hilliard, February 9.
Performances
Other performances by Schmidt in 2002 included
Four Partita Movements, played and recorded for Bavarian
Radio, in Munich, Germany (June); and Tondo
Doni, at the Staunton Music Festival
(August). The Gaudeamus
Music Festival, in Amsterdam,
the Netherlands,
featured Schmidt and Tomoko Mukaiyama
in Interno Cupola de San Pietro,
for piano four hands, March 2002.
As part of the Contemporary Music Festival at JMU, Koch label
recording artist Barry Salwen presented
Sonata for the Sun, February 9, 2002. Heard at the National Flute Association Convention,
August 2002 in Washington, DC,
was Three Japanese Sketches, for flute choir.
