The 2003 American Composers Update

as published in PAN PIPES, Volume 95, Number 2

Joelle Wallach

In the November 2001, American Record Guide reviewer Moore called Joelle Wallach's Shadow, Signs, and Songs of Longing CD (Capstone Records CPS-8689) "a worthy collection."  Moore further states that "The music is emotional and dramatically cogent. . . . Shadows, Sighs, and Songs of Longing is a 16-minute cello concerto of much warmth and lyricism," and describes Wallach as "a composer of considerable charm and serious intent."  Current commissions are for String Trio, based on Chinese melodies, from the Jade String Trio; String Quartet No. 3, from the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music for the Muir Quartet; From the Almanac of Last Things, from Paul Sperry for The Joy of Singing Millenial Concert; and Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano, from The American Chamber Ensemble, Naomi Drucker and Blanche Abram Directors.  Scheduled for spring 2003 is a recording of Voices of the Iron Harp with pianist Jeffrey Jacob.
