The 2003 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 95, Number 2 Libby Larsen*****PremieresIn 2001, Barn Dances, by SAI Member Laureate Libby Larsen, for flute, clarinet, and piano, had its first performances at the National Flute Convention, with Helen Ann and Richard Shanley and Brian Marks, August 18; and at Rice University, Houston, TX, with The Webster Trio, September 14. The James Dickey Symposium, held at the University of South Carolina, in Columbia, included the Sandlappers Singers, Lillian Quackenbush, director, in the premiere of Falling, September 8, 2001. The Logan Canyon Winds was played first November 15, 2001, by the Logan Canyon Wind Quintet with additional performers on Orff instruments, at the National Orff convention, in Cincinnati, OH. On January 22-23 and February 3, Minnesota Orchestra Young People's Concerts presented Patterns for Orchestra. The first production of Dreaming Blue took place February 25, 2002, in Salt Lake City. In progress is a book for Graywolf Press. PerformancesSusanne Mentzer and Craig Rutenberg performed Love After 1950, November 2, 2001, at The Morgan Library, New York, NY. On February 1-2, 2002, Barnum's Bird was heard on Plymouth Music Series of Minnesota, at the Library of Congress, in Washington, DC. A festival of the composer's music took place March 5-8, 2002, at Meredith College
