SAI National Arts Associate Larry Thomas Bell returned
to the American Academy
in Rome, where he is a
Fellow, as Visiting Artist during the summer of 2002.
Premieres
Hansel and Gretel, for narrator and orchestra,
was heard first on November 3, 2002, with the New England
Conservatory Preparatory Division Orchestra, in Boston's
Jordan Hall. At the Robert
Schumann Hochschule, in Dusseldorf,
Germany, the
Gardizi-Thone Duo gave the European premiere of Blues Theme
with Variations, for two pianos, February 13, 2002.
Performances
2002 performances of Songs of Innocence and Experience,
for children's choir and orchestra, occurred with the Symphony Pro
Musica, Mark Churchill, conductor, in Westborough,
MA, November 9-10; and with the
Juilliard School Pre-College Chorus, Rebecca Scott, conductor, in
New York, NY,
April 27. With the composer at the piano, soprano D'Anna Fortunato sang The Immortal
Beloved, for mezzo-soprano and piano, at St. Botolph
Club in Boston, September 19, 2002. In 2002, pianist Jonathan Bass played Reminiscences
and Reflections: 12
Preludes and Fugues in Boston,
at M. Steinert's and Sons, March 14, and as part of WGBH Classical
Performances, March 19.
