Michael Mauldin**
In a Farewell Tribute and 65th Anniversary Alumni
Reunion held at the Albuquerque
Academy on June
8, 2002, the Albuquerque Boy Choir named Michael Mauldin
Director Emeritus upon his retirement as director.
On the same day, at the University
of New Mexico, the Albuquerque
SAI Alumnae Chapter inducted him as a Friend of the Arts
Premieres
Mauldin introduced the piano piece Roadrunner
on April 14, 2002, at Washburn Piano in
Albuquerque, NM,
as a part of the Albuquerque Music Teachers Association student-adult
composer concert, "Music Has Charms to Soothe the Savage Beast," dedicated
to Mauldin for founding the event ten years earlier.
A'ts'ina:
Place of Writings on the Rock, for string quartet, commissioned
by the Placitas (NM) Artists Series, was introduced by Willy Sucre
and Friends, May 19, 2002, on a concert of world-premiere
string quartets by New Mexico
composers.
Performances
On a concert presented by the Corrales (NM) Cultural
Arts Council, Carrie Koffman and Lawrence
Blind performed Three Songs, a sonata for saxophone and piano,
January 26, 2002. The
New Mexico Woodwind Quintet played Canyon Light: Four Scenes for Woodwind Quintet, February 10, 2002, on the Placitas Artists
Series. Blind's piano recital
at the University of Houston (TX) included
Going Forth at Dawn With Power, March
11, 2002. Directed by Edmund Torrez, The Albuquerque Boy
Choir sang Come, Holy Spirit, August
4, 2002, at AmericaFest 2002,
an international festival of boys' and men's choirs, held at St.
John's Abbey, in Collegeville,
MN.
Mauldin conducted the Symphony Orchestra of Albuquerque in
High Places, August
10-11, 2002.
