Premieres

Just a Line from Chameleon, for two clarinets, by SAI National Arts Associate M. William Karlins, was presented on Contemporary Music VIII, A Celebration of the Music of Paul Martin Zonn, May 13, 2002, at Northwestern University, in Evanston, IL.


Performances

Eighth Blackbird cellist Nicholas Photinos presented Music for Cello Alone No. 1 at Northwestern University at the Stefan Wolpe Festival, November 30, 2001; at the Contemporary Music program, May 13, 2002; and at a recital, May 22, 2002.  Heard at the Indiana State University (ISU) 35th Contemporary Music Festival, with the ISU Saxophone Ensemble, Doug Keiser, conductor, October 31, 2001, was Nostalgie, for 12 saxophones.  The second Festival Internacional de Musica del Siglo Veinto, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, included Quintet, for alto saxophone and string quartet, with Patrick Meighan and Conjunto de Camera de Puerto Rico, November 7, 2001.  String Trio (1962-63) received a performance by the CUBE Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at a program in honor of Women's History Month and in celebration of the 70th birthdays of Chicago composers Karlins and Robert Lombardo, presented by Mostly Music at Northeastern Illinois University, in Chicago, March 1, 2002.  At the Escola de Música e Artes Cênicas da Universidade Federal de Goiás, Brazil, Graphic Mobile, for three or more instruments with or without dancers, was staged by Performance na Contemporaneidade, Sonia Ray, conductor, with Gyovanna Carneiro, prepared piano; Marina Machado, concert piano; Caetana Juracy, oboe; and Luciana Brito, Paulo Vitória, and Karolinne Vital, dancers, October 2, 2002.
