Arthur Gottschalk

Arthur Gottschalk recently completed his Concerto for Violin and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, commissioned by Kenneth Goldsmith; the overture to his opera Toussaint L'Ouverture; and a work for brass choir and percussion, Royal Australian Regiment, for SAI Marie Speziale. Upcoming performances include his Sonata for Bass Tuba with Kevin West at Texas Tech University, and Royal Australian Regiment with Marie Speziale conducting the Shepherd Brass Choir. He has been invited to participate in "Primavera en La Habana," the international electroacoustic music festival held in Havana, Cuba, in March 2004, and anticipates the release of a CD of his orchestra works on the Centaur label, also in the spring of 2004.

Premieres

Sonata for Bass Tuba was introduced by David Kirk, at Rice University, Houston, TX, February 6, 2003. Dueling Cantors was first heard in a concert April 6 by the Pacific Symphony conducted by Carl St. Clair, Orange County (CA) Performing Arts Center. On June 15, The Mother of Peace received its premiere at the 33rd Festival Synthese, Theatre Jacques-Coeur, Bourges, France. Gasp was presented September 13 by the Texas Computer Music Network, Rice University, Houston, TX.

Performances

Percussionist Robert LedBetter performed Stations at the University of Montana, Missoula, February 11, 2003. The Quapaw String Quartet, with soprano Laura Storm, presented Five Songs of Love February 18 at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, AR. On April 12, Shall We Gather was performed by saxophonist Adam Pendleton at the North American Saxophone Alliance Convention, Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. Sometimes I Feel Like a Dog on Linoleum was heard at the Electric Rainbow Festival, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, August 22. Violinist Jennifer Owen, bassoonist Benjamin Kamins, and pianist Scott Holshauser presented American Nights at Rice University, Houston, TX, September 12.
