The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Dinos ConstantinidesDinos Constantinides received an ASCAP Standard Works Award for 2003. His new commissions include Threnos of Creon for Oboe and Strings, commissioned by Linda Strommen, and a Piccolo Concerto, commissioned by Iwona Glinka. PremieresMusic for Two Cellos was introduced May 3, 2003, by the Louisiana Sinfonietta at the Baton Rouge Festival-For-All, LA. On May 4, the Louisiana Sinfonietta premiered Concerto for Two Cellos and Orchestra in Baton Rouge, LA. Throughout the month of June the Sinfonietta also performed Dancing Shoes nine times in Baton Rouge libraries. Ballade for the Helenic Land for Solo Cello, was first heard July 15 at the Baton Rouge Gallery. PerformancesThe opera Intimations was presented May 10, 2003, in Athens, Greece; other Athens performances included Tale for piano, trumpet, and trombone, which was heard at a Concert of Greek Composers, and Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra performed by The Orchestra of Colors, both on October 19. Patterns for Violin was heard in Athens in June, and on June 23 in San Jose, Costa Rica; also performed in Costa Rica was Suite for a Young Man during the CMS International Conference on June 21. Music for Violin and Clarinet was presented by The Duo Verdehr in Australia; and Rodrigo Vitta conducted a performance of Dedications for Strings in Sao Paulo Brazil, both in September. Recollections for Theofilos and Ballade for the Hellenic Land for Solo Cello was heard in the Baton Rouge Gallery on July 15; on their June tour of Baton Rouge libraries, the Louisiana Sinfonietta played Lazy Jack and His Violin nine times, and in November, the Sinfonietta and Simos Papanas presented Concerto for Violin and Orchestra.
